Carriers Are Blocking Free Tethering on Android Phones

Many Android users who have been using an App to tether their smartphones to share Internet connect with other devices will have to pony up the cash. AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and T-Mobile and cracking down on free tethering apps and those who use them. The Apps you download from Android Market typically let you share the phone’s data with up to 8 Wi-Fi capable devices. And since the users already pay for the unlimited data plan so they don’t have to pay extra for the tethering charge. Carriers typically charge users $20 on top of a data plan (either limited or unlimited) to share wireless data connection. And there is a cap of 2GB on tether usage. Many users tried to save $20 a month by installing apps from the Android Market. Hey, $20 adds up to $480 in a 2-year contract period. That means carriers will lose $480 a year per user and as more people tether their Android phones. Not only have that, the increased free tethering inevitably slowed down the entire network. It’s just not fair for users who pay up their monthly data plus tethering plan. Guess what, the days of free tethering will end really soon. Time to find the cheapest tethering plan. The Apps have been banned and carriers are sending out text messages to those who are still using them.
