Is Verizon Prepaid Cell Phone Cheaper?

Don’t want to commit your cell phone service with Verizon Wireless for 2 years? Verizon Prepay phone is one of the solutions. But is prepaid Verizon cell phone cheaper than other phones? The prepay phones themselves are definitely not. In fact they are not subsidized like other contract phones. The prices can range from $50 to a few hundred dollars depending on the phone. You are basically paying close to retail price. So, is Verizon prepaid phone cheaper when it comes to cost per call? The very basic prepay calling plan offers you 25 cents per minute. Unless you can keep the conversation very short, 5 minutes a day or 180 minutes a month can run you close to $40. Compare to the $39.99 post-paid plan with 450 anytime minutes plus unlimited nights and weekends offered by Verizon Wireless, the prepaid rate is not good at all.

One major hassle that I find is that you need to have some balance in your account in order to make calls and send text messages. In other words, you can only make use of your phone if you have money left in the account. That can be annoying if you need to make an important call and find yourself have $0 balance. It’s just not worth the hassle! Verizon Prepaid cell phone is not cheaper in any way.

Verizon’s own prepaid might not be all that cheap but if you love the Verizon network (and let’s face it, we all do!) and hate the price you should look at the Straight Talk plans. They are available from Walmart or online.
Straight Talk uses the nationwide Verizon network but get this: it costs only $45 for unlimited everything! You can talk, text and use mobile web as much as you want for only $45.
They have another plan as well, $30 for 1000 minutes, 1000 texts plus 30mb data. Both the Straight Talk plans also include unlimited free 411 calls. Very neat.

I have been using them for a few months and love the service and the low price.
